For many years Fuchosa has supported a proactive environmental protecion culture, in favour of Sustainable Development and known as much for its slant on our production process, as for its focus on all things related to the day-to-day workings of Fuchosa in the community.

Every activity linked to environmental matters is oriented towards the development of a set of principles which make up the business performance directives, and can be summarised as follows:

• To comply with applicable legal and environmental requirements
• To encourage Continuous Improvement in relation to the Environment
• To respect our surrounding by minimizing our impact on it
• To establish Active and Preventive Environmental Objectives

In order to follow these principles through, a series of tasks established in the Integral Management System have been defined:

• To inculcate a sense of Responsibility towards the Environment among the workforce.
• To stimulate and evaluate the establishment of Environmental Management Systems in our field, and more specifically amongst our suppliers.
• To periodically review the environmental impact caused by by our processes and activity and to draw up and implement action plans as necessary.
• To inform interested parties of Fuchosa’s situation regarding Environmental Protection.

As part of our willingness to take our work beyond the bounds of the strictly necessary, our compromise with the Environment and our surroundings may be clearly seen in the Voluntary Agreement signed by Fuchosa in October 2004 (in force until the year 2007) with the Basque Government for the Environment improvement. In order to demand the most of our processes, and in addition to our environmental policy, we have adopted EMAS as the model of Environmental Management to be followed in our Integral System. Fuchosa’s proactive attitude towards the evironment has gained us recognition in the shape of the 2001-2002 Award for Sustainable Environmental Business Management, a European award putting us at the forefront of the Basque Country and finalists in the national stakes.
